Electrify Bouddi is a not-for-profit community association with more than 180 members. It’s for Bouddi residents and local businesses who want to reduce their climate impact, build climate resilience and save money on energy.
They run community working groups to educate local consumers on their energy profiles and connect them to local installers who can help them meet their needs through renewable energy. To coordinate this action, Electrify Bouddi have developed a four-stage decarbonisation strategy for the community.
Consumer benefits:
All of these electric appliances help households cut costs on their energy bills, particularly for natural gas which is very expensive. Households in Bouddi collectively spend more than $8 million on energy bills, and this program aims to bring that number down considerably.
Local benefits:
Electrify Bouddi works with households to help them install rooftop solar and promote the benefits of solar power management, power sharing and storage. Households also plan for replacing household appliances at or before they reach end of life with energy efficient appliances such as heat pump hot water, induction cooktops, air conditioning for heating and cooling. Local businesses benefit from increased interest in their renewable appliances.
Climate benefits:
Bouddi currently uses an average of 24 MWh of all types of energy per year per household, are responsible for climate emissions of 10 tonnes CO2 per household each year. Electrify Bouddi aims to slash emissions and energy costs for the community through its decarbonisation strategy, which is already underway and assessing sites for community renewable energy projects.
